It's sad when a dog runs away or escapes. It's heartbreaking, really. Wandering around, posting fliers, searching the neighborhood, calling neighbors — it's stressful, especially when the idea creeps into your mind that you'll never see your dog again or that he/she got hit by a car.
You know what's really sad, though? If you discover that your dog is safe and sound, that some kind stranger found the pup and took him to the pound, and you get to the pound and your dog is dead because they killed him by mistake.
That's exactly what happened in Stark County recently.
