So, teenagers have officially broken into the reality-TV-show market. Let’s be optimistic and say it’s a sign that we’re treating teens more like adults, giving them agency and responsibility rather than corrupting them with petty drama at the youngest age possible. The latest teen-competition series (think
MasterChef Junior) will feature budding fashionistas, and yes, Tim Gunn will be present.
Project Runway Junior is not an inferior mock-up of the original series but rather an identical production, substituting a different blonde model as the host and a slew of 16-year-olds for the usual quirky cast. It’s no big surprise that the teens seem to have a knack for fluffing their feathers and participating in the trite charades of reality TV; after all, teenagers are the behavioral models for the Kardashians, aren’t they?
Two Ohioans made the premiere-season’s cut. Seventeen-year-old Victoria hails from Westlake, so write-off any future binging to Cleveland-pride. Victoria likes to use unconventional material and design to create styles inspired by 1970’s British punk. Project Runway fans, rejoice! Everyone else, forget you ever read this. The series premiere is November 12 at 9 pm on Lifetime.
