Proposed Puppy Mill Rules to be Voted Upon at Upcoming Committee Meeting

Earlier this year, I wrote about the current swath of puppy mill reform working its way through the Ohio Department of Agriculture and into self-described "kennels" across the state. A quick scan of the proposed rules and the former set of policies revealed that not much was changing in this supposed bout of reform.

For the next week, a window of opportunity for public comment remains open. Messages can be sent to committee members or prepared for reading during the meeting.

The Joint Committee on Agency Rule Review will hash out the slate of rules and cast a vote on the matter on Sept. 23 (at 1:30 p.m. in Room 121 at the Ohio Statehouse, for you Columbus-bound readers).

The members of the committee include Chairman Rep. Ross McGregor, Vice Chair Sen. Bob Peterson and, locally, Sen. Michael Skindell, along with seven other state legislators.
