Rash of West Side Burglaries Continues With Break-In at Astoria Market and Cafe

A rash of break-ins at near westside businesses including Jack Flaps, Cleveland Bagel Company, and Herb'n Twine continued this week with a similar break-in at Astoria Market and Cafe on Detroit Ave.

Surveillance video of the incident captured by Astoria's cameras shows a man breaking the front glass door with a brick, wandering around the store looking for its point-of-sale system, then departing once he realized it was secured. iPads were also targets at the other locations.

“This whole building is lit up with cameras,” owner Steve Daniels told Newsnet5. “We believe in the neighborhood. Most of the people are great people. If people are trying to do harm to us, we’re going to get you.”

Police are, of course, investigating and anyone with tips can call Cuyahoga County Crime Stoppers anonymously at 216-252-7463.
