Reader: LeBron Should Support the People Who Support Him

Omit my busy schedule and change of scenery, and I still find time once a month to check up on my favorite newspaper in my hometown of Cleveland. I've been a longtime fan of Pete Kotz and Scene Magazine, and the community and readership it begets. First things first: I freely admit to not being a big sports fan. Sports are fun and all, but I have other engaging interests, and my life goes on when my team does not win on Saturday, Sunday, or any other day of the week in which they play. But I have home town pride, and seeing Mr. James wearing a Yankees hat in Cleveland Stadium last night really upset me. Now, I understand you have the right to be an individual, and have the right of self expression, and you can even do things for a joke, but everything you do as a "superstar" is set within a context. This context many of us will never live in, but what's funny about this reality is that anyone with common sense can tell you what you should do, or what you shouldn't do. If I (a Tribe fan) were to wear a Tribe cap into a bar in San Diego, I'll get a snare, or maybe a grimace, but truthfully it's not really that big of a deal. None of those people are fans of my desk job, nor do they pay my salary. I don't have to win them over for support, and none of them show up to watch me input data into Excel. Mr. James (from what I can conjure up, anyway) is the local hometown hero (who also makes $5,828,089 a year), and is the captain of the team he led to the playoffs. My intelligence leads me to believe that him being there should be twofold – enjoy himself, and support the team and people who support him. Matt Vild San Diego
