Report: Community Activist Kathy Wray Coleman Arrested Downtown on Outstanding Warrant During RNC

Community activist Kathy Wray Coleman was arrested a short time ago at Public Square. Reporters on scene captured the arrest as well as some initial info: "A Cleveland police officer said it was for an outstanding warrant. Her friend says the warrant is for an alleged assault against a police officer outside Coleman's foreclosed Cleveland home."

She's currently on her way to the hospital with EMS. No reason for the hospital trip or details at this time.

That outstanding warrant seems to be connected to an incident dating back to last year when University Heights police officers say Coleman almost hit officers with her car after she sped off from her former house, which had been foreclosed on. Details from Channel 5's report from last March:

When police were called to a home in University Heights for a report of an open front door at a vacant house, officers say they witnessed Coleman running to a blue Chevrolet Monte Carlo car parked in the driveway.

According to the police report, Coleman then fled the scene in the car, almost striking the officers.

Two other men were detained at the home.

Court documents show a warrant has been issued for Coleman's arrest.

Coleman denied the allegations to Newsnet5 and wrote of the incident on her website saying she was "harassed at gun point by five white University Heights policemen." One, she said, calling her a racial slur.

"I feared for my life that day and still do," she wrote.
