This is why we don't go to Vegas. We figured the Beastie Boys were a sure bet to be inducted into the Rock Hall next year. We were wrong.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum announced its 2011 inductees last night, and the Beastie Boys were nowhere to be found. In fact, no artist who started making music in the '80s is on the list.
The Rock Hall went old-school — like, really old-school — for the five inductees, who will be inducted into the hall at a ceremony in March in — wait for it — New York City.
Here's the list:
—Alice Cooper Band
—Neil Diamond
—Dr. John
—Darlene Love
—Tom Waits
You'll probably notice that all of these artists, except for Tom Waits, started making music in the '60s. You'll probably also notice that the cumulative age among them is somewhere near 1,000.
We're not totally shocked by the list, but we figured there'd be at least one name on the list who isn't eligible for AARP membership.
We're not complaining. The big bash returns to Cleveland in 2012. We'd rather see the Beasties here than Dr. John anyway. And we're so, so, so thankful Rock Hall voters blew right over Bon Jovi.
