Sean Levert's widow sues county over his death in jail

Sean Levert was in jail for owing $89,000 in back child support.
The widow of Sean Levert has filed a wrongful death suit against jail officials who she accuses of medical negligence. In March, the R&B singer collapsed in his cell at Cuyahoga County Jail, and was rushed to the Lutheran Hospital. Doctors pronounced him dead less than an hour later. Coroners ruled that Levert had died of “natural causes” (he had high blood pressure), but Levert’s widow, Angela Lowe, believes otherwise. In the suit, she claims his death could have been prevented if guards had given him his blood pressure medicine in a timely manner. She’s seeking unspecified damages. Surely somebody could use the money. Levert was incarcerated for being a deadbeat, owing $89,025 in unpaid child support. -- Rebecca Meiser
