Shaker Heights Native Celeste Ng's Debut Novel Optioned for Feature Film
Everything I Never Told You, the debut novel by author Celeste Ng, has been picked up by LD Entertainment and will be turned into a feature film.

The novel, which takes experiences from Ng's own Shaker Heights upbringing, tells the story of a Chinese-American family in the 1970s in a small Ohio town who suffer an unthinkable tragedy when their daughter is found dead in a lake. The investigation into the death reveals family secrets and tears at the bonds of the immigrant family.

Ng, who moved to Shaker Heights when she was 10 years old, graduated from Shaker Heights High School before attending Harvard University as an undergraduate. Ng's father worked as a physicist for NASA in Cleveland and her mother was a chemist who taught at Cleveland State.

Michael De Luca, known for his work on films like The Social Network, Captain Phillips and Moneyball, will produce the film. Julia Cox, who wrote Amazon’s The Last Tycoon, the F. Scott Fitzgerald adaptation, will adapt the screenplay.

The novel, which won the Amazon Book of the Year Award in 2014, amongst other prizes, was a New York Times bestseller for 47 weeks with 1.5 million copies sold worldwide and is available in 28 languages.

Ng's second novel, Little Fires Everywhere, was released in 2017 to wide acclaim (it's currently been on the NYT bestseller list for 16 straight weeks) and takes place almost exclusively in Shaker Heights.
