Chef Jonathon Sawyer's places, Greenhouse Tavern and Noodlecat, are getting even more national press. Last week Sawyer made a Time top-ten list.
Today, the restaurants are featured in the "Shit People Steal" column over at Eater.com. Not as prestigious as last week's nod, but a fun read.
The most desired object among dining thieves was the ceramic cat that sat upon Greenhouse Tavern's host stand when Sawyer was getting ready to open Noodlecat. Greenhouse's Bridget Rehner says people tried to walk off with it at least three times a week. They knew because they put pennies inside the cat, and they would fall out onto the floor whenever someone picked the cat up.
Sadly, the attempted thefts stopped when chef and partner Brian Goodman smashed it, which Rehner says, is another story. (Ms. Rehner, if you are reading, Scene would very much like to hear that story.)
Over at Noodlecat, the baseballs used to hold down checks out on the patio in summer tend to disappear. And there was a homeless guy with a sudden chopstick fetish.
