This weekend, from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, SPACES hosts a special reception to celebrate the opening of its latest exhibitions and projects.
Chloe Bass’ Book of Everyday, Chapter One: you +me together chronicles a series of one-on-one interactions between Cleveland residents and the Brooklyn, NY-based artist. Bass invited the public to spend an afternoon having Bass “sub” in an activity you’d normally do in a pair. The activities were well-documented, timelined and will be presented in an exhibition format. Additional components include tiny video peepholes for spying and activity cards that encourage and guide your own one-on-one social interactions.
“SWAP resident Chloë Bass has spent the last 6 weeks in Cleveland engaging in a series of one-on-one interactions,” explains SPACES Executive Director Christina Vassallo. “Her exhibition at SPACES is a chronicle of fleeting yet intimate exchanges with Clevelanders.”
Simultaneously, SPACES hosts Bounce, featuring works by father/son collaborators keegan & nick.
“Father and son collaborative, keegan & nick, has created an entire body of work that explores what it means to bounce,” adds Vassallo. “There will be a series of performances and interactive sculptures that will take visitors on a roller coaster ride of emotions, mainly focusing on frustration, elation, and the element of surprise.”
Additionally, The Vault premieres two new collections of video works, curated by Kerry Downey, Daniel Gray-Kontar and students from Cleveland School of the Arts.
“We are expanding our Vault video program this quarter with two different projects,” continues Vassallo. “The first is a video selection curated by high school students, from Cleveland School of the Arts, that portrays how young people respond to prevalent themes in today's hip hop. Artist Kerry Downey, from New York City, also organized a selection of works about the queer body and performance in video art.”
Exhibitions run through July 10. Additional viewing hours Tuesdays through Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.; Thursday, open until 8 p.m. Closed Monday. Free and open to the public.
