Water taxi season is back on the Cuyahoga River starting Mother's Day Weekend. And once again riders can shuttle between both sides of the Flats free of charge, thanks to a centennial gift from local steelmaker ArcelorMittal.

Last year, the 26-foot eLCee2 water taxi — which can fit 17 people, dogs and also bikes — nearly doubled its usage, ferrying 47,000 passengers across the clear, brownish waters.

"Our hope is that every person who boards the water taxi gains an appreciation for the unique asset that the Cuyahoga River is to our community," said Mike Madar, vice president and general manager of ArcelorMittal Cleveland, in a statement.

Hours are Friday from 4 to 9 p.m; Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Hours are shortened to 7 p.m. on Memorial Day and Labor Day.
