The Nike Rumor Pack Adds a Cleveland Browns Design

Remember a couple a months ago when pics of a supposed "I Heart NY" version of LeBron's Nikes were leaked? There was uproar, obviously. Then a report from the New York Post claimed that the shoes were a hoax.

It's so surreal that a hoax was perpetrated on the Web in the past days — reporting Nike had released pictures of a soon-to-be released new Knicks LeBron shoe in blue and orange — with "I love New York" pictured on the orange sole along with "L23" shaped in a question mark.

A Nike spokesman told The Post yesterday it was a fake. It looks as though it's being sold on e-Bay, so buyer, beware.

Except those who know and care about sneakers didn't really believe it. Seemed like a poorly executed cover up. The pics and the shoes looked real. chimed in earlier this month when a second set of pics popped up:

The photo you see below is a little provocation on our part. There’s no intend to offend anybody here, but I would like to address some issues that surfaced the first time when we wrote about the “I Love New York” LeBron VII Samples. The article was picked up by several blogs and websites, but since this matter is very delicate in Ohio it was also featured on Couple days later they claimed the shoes to be fake according to one of Nike’s representatives who told that to The Post. That was very misleading especially since it isn’t true. First of all we care a great deal about counterfeits and we would never leak the photos without making sure they are authentic. Which they are by the way. On top of that not did Nike “misinform” fans about them being fake but they actually let the samples leak into the outlets.

That's a sentiment that's echoed among sneakerheads. The Rumor Pack is real. Cue the update from Sneakernews:

LeBron’s focus hasn’t swayed, though, because he’s still looking for his first Championship. But to poke fun at the situation is the Nike Air Max LeBron VII Low Rumor Pack, featuring colourways of the teams who have been or will be courting LeBron once he’s free. The Knicks (Orange/Blue), Nets (Grey/Red), CSKA Moscow (Red/Blue), and the Cleveland Browns (Brown/Orange) would love to add him to their roster, but they’ll have to settle for these colourways for now. Check out the pics and let us know where you think LeBron will end up at the end of the summer. Available now at Dunk.

And, yes, they are available over at Dunk. Here's the Knicks version. Here's the Browns version.
