Eat Fast, Name Your Own Taco
So you think you have what it takes to win a taco eating contest? Find out this Friday, when Barrio in Tremont will be posting up its new food truck in the parking lot and letting a lucky few test their stomach’s capacity. “Winner takes all in the first annual taco eating contest at Barrio: Bragging rights, a $400 cash prize and a chance to name your own taco,” boasts proprietor Joe Kahn. The entrance fee is $10 for the 10-minute contest. That’s 10 minutes to see how many tacos you can stuff into your mouth. As someone who has beaten some of the toughest food challenges in town, I can tell you that the only saving grace in this contest is that Barrio has chosen to use soft tacos. Presumably they will be easier and faster to eat than their hard counterpart. I would also anticipate this being a high-performance competition, so be sure to come with your belly empty. Kahn says that slots for participants are filling up fast, so interested parties should sign up at Barrio or call the restaurant soon 216.999.7714. Even though Barrio has some awesome tacos, after eating 15-plus, the victor can probably name their taco “yo quiero food coma.” ¡Ole!
