A summer tradition, powerboat racing returns to Headlands Beach in Mentor this summer in the form of the third annual Mentor Powerboat Grand Prix.

Fans will have the opportunity to meet race teams at the Great Lakes Mall on Friday, July 20. Downtown Willoughby will also host the boats from 7:30 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, July 21.

The racing action will take place on Sunday, July 22. More than 20 powerboats will compete at speeds approaching 180 miles per hour. The races will begin at noon.

“Race World Offshore is sanctioning this year races. We are expecting 20 powerboat race teams to battle it out for the checkered flag,” says Event Director Shawn Zbasnik in a press release announcing the event. “The race continues to offer an exciting weekend of events the entire family can enjoy.”

After the event, CBS Sports will air a one-hour special featuring the races. The program will air in early 2019 in all 50 states with a reported reach of 65 million households.

Admission is free, but parking costs $10 per car at Headlands Beach.
