As the summer election season draws to its climax, and as early voting has begun
, three events have been scheduled for the rest of August that will feature at least some of the candidates for Cleveland Mayor.
Tuesday, August 22: A Mayoral Candidates Forum
has been scheduled at Angie's Soul Food Cafe. All nine mayoral candidates have reportedly been invited and Jeff Johnson and Bill Patmon have confirmed. The forum is being hosted by a group of prominent local activists, including Kathy Wray Coleman, Al Porter, Art McKoy, Princess Moore, Frances Caldwell, Ada Averyhart, Dionne Thomas Carmichael, Don Bryant and Mary Seawright. The forum intends to focus on "key issues" such as: "violence against women, community revitalization, education, tax abatements, jobs, a broken legal system, and the consent decree for police reforms."
"The community will be able to ask uncensored questions straight from the floor," Coleman wrote in a newsletter, "not via writing down questions as others often require to manipulate the forum."
Friday, August 25 (12 p.m.): The City Club will host a Primary Debate
, featuring all nine candidates, at the Global Center for Health Innovation. The 90-minute lunchtime event
, which is sold out, will be moderated by WCPN's Rick Jackson. It will be the first time that incumbent Mayor Frank Jackson will appear alongside his challengers.
*This post has been updated with the event's new location and with a critical piece of info, per the City Club: it's sold out.
Tuesday, August 29 (7-9 p.m.): The CleCast Podcast will host its first ever Live Mayoral Forum
, in the Ohio City Room at Market Garden Brewery. According to the event page
, all nine campaigns have been invited. Candidates Jeff Johnson, Brandon Chrostowski and Robert Kilo have confirmed.
On the docket for discussion: "development, schools, safety, equitability, and diversity." Hosts Brian Harrington and Dan Huszai want to hear from potential guests as well. If you have ideas for topics or questions, shoot them an email at [email protected]
