Something to gnaw on when you hear your esteemed mayor, city council, and other leaders pinning this fine state's future on alternative energy, namely wind and solar energy, which they seem fond of doing: If it's going to happen,
The New York Times' Thomas Friedman writes today, it's going to take some folks in Washington retracting their retractable claws -- they do it for cocktail parties, so why not alt-energy policy? -- and getting together to help the States catch up with the rest of the globe on solar and wind.
In the meantime, Friedman writes, the immobility in Washington is having a direct and pretty depressing effect on Ohio:
While all the presidential candidates were railing about lost manufacturing jobs in Ohio, no one noticed that America’s premier solar company, First Solar, from Toledo, Ohio, was opening its newest factory in the former East Germany — 540 high-paying engineering jobs — because Germany has created a booming solar market and America has not.
