Tribe 2012: Somebody Thinks We Won't Suck

2012 Tribe: Still tied for first!

The keister end of another lost Browns season seems like as good a time as any to bust out a little summer optimism. Today's dose comes courtesy of Jonah Keri at the sports 'n' culture website Grantland.

In his rundown of what each American League team needs to accomplish this winter, his assessment of the Tribe starts with: "A lot less than you think."

Keri heaps praise on Asdrubal Cabrera and Carlos Santana, as well as a starting rotation that should leave hitters pounding balls into the dirt all summer. He also points out what your Aunt Tilda already knows: They need a stick at first base, and Carlos Pena sure would look pretty there.

Happily, he sees 2012 not as another work-in-progress, but the year that a little aggressiveness by GM Chris Antonetti could have us leap-frogging the mostly woeful AL Central pack.

November hype gets you nothing in April, but it does make winter beer taste better.
