"We Could Give 'em Christmas Pants": Kasich Shines in Bad Lip Reading of Cleveland Debate, Earns Charles Barkley's Interest

John Kasich performed well at the first Republican Presidential Debate earlier this month. He gave an answer about gay marriage — "sure I'd love my daughter if she were gay" — that was hailed as a new frontier in conservative compassion and social tolerance.

In a new "Bad Lip Reading" of the debate highlights, Kasich sadly appears just once. But his closing remarks — "We could give 'em cheese or we could give 'em Christmas pants" — are really catchy, and are about as sensible as most of the discourse that comprised the actual debate.

Perhaps even bigger news for Kasich, though, is that he's been putting together an impressive roster of supporters. In addition to major political establishment figures, he has also managed to impress the likes of TNT basketball analyst (and former NBA superstar) Charles Barkley.

"Right now I like John Kasich, the governor of Ohio," Barkley said on ESPN's Mike & Mike show (and reported by Cleveland.com's Henry Gomez). "He's the only person that I'm really paying attention to right now, to be honest with you."

Barkley stressed that he almost always voted Democratic, but Kasich might be making the outspoken former athlete cross over. "If I had to vote today, I would probably vote for John Kasich," he said.
