Cleveland police released a year-to-date roundup of crime reports today.
Here's a summary:
- 33 reported homicides
- 211 reported rapes
- 1,085 reported robberies
- 712 reported felonious assaults
- 2,467 reported burglaries
- 5,041 reported thefts
- 1,497 reported cases of grand theft auto
- 104 reported cases of arson
The data covers Jan. 1 through May 10. It's been a busy year, and it ain't even half-over. Hats off to the men and women on the street - it looks grisly out there.

A look back at total-year data from 2006 to 2012 reveals an overall decline in most crime categories.
Homicides have trended down to 98 in 2012 from a high of 134 in 2007. Cases of rape have fluctuated in terms of quantity over the years, ebbing between 500 and 600 most of the time.
Robberies and thefts have decreased while, interestingly, burglaries have increased over time.
Instances of felonious assault have also crept downward since 2006.
With about a month and a half to go before the midyear point in 2013, it seems like this year's numbers are tracking on the low end of the data points, according to the most unscientific of estimates.
