An Ivy League take on Cleveland

Posted By on Tue, Sep 26, 2006 at 4:36 PM

We don't need a PBS documentary to tell us how depressing Cleveland is. Still, gluttons for punishment can tune in to WVIZ Channel 25 at 8 p.m. on Thursday for Cleveland: Confronting Decline in an American City, which doesn't see much hope on the smoke-covered horizon. Business leaders, commentators, and residents look for life in restoration projects in Tremont and University Heights, but the general outlook is bleak. Making matters worse, the hour-long film was shot in town over the past couple years by a video-production company from Boston (its previous opus, Phoenix: The Urban Desert, revealed Arizona for a desolate wasteland). If anyone can get to the bottom of our city's woes, it's a bunch of Ivy-league filmmakers who spent a couple of hours walking down Superior Avenue. -- Michael Gallucci
