Nazis in Baghdad

Posted By on Tue, Sep 26, 2006 at 12:26 PM

Remember Erich Gliebe, the neo-Nazi leader from Parma who oversaw the collapse of the National Alliance? After reading our story "Fall of the Fourth Reich, reader Suzanne Metelko sent us an article about his comrades in the military. The article, published in the Southern Poverty Law Center's Intelligence Report, talks about how the most elite military units in the world are training the next Timothy McVeighs. "We've got Aryan Nations graffiti in Baghdad," Department of Defense gang detective Scott Barfield says. "That's a problem." One of the most interesting tales is about Matt Buschbacher, who hails from the Cincinnati suburb of Terrace Park. A former leader in the racist group World Church of the Creator, Buschbacher served as a Navy SEAL in Iraq before being honorably discharged. But even Nazis get tired of fighting. Buschbacher now lives in Denver, where he teaches classes on how to pick up women. We'll let you insert the joke here. -- Lisa Rab
