Boehner bones it

If you've used the Internet for something other than cybersex in the past few days, you've no doubt heard about the email dalliance Republican Representative Mark Foley (R-Sodom) had with a boy page. In turgid prose worthy of "To Catch a Predator," the distinguished pervert from Florida inquired about the boy's penis size and compared notes on masturbation techniques. House Majority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) apparently knew that a colleague was hitting on children, but didn't feel it was his place to stop it. So when it was revealed that Republican House leaders knew about the emails as early as last spring, they were left scrambling to explain why they protected a predator — not to mention letting him chair the Missing and Exploited Children's Caucus. In an interview with a Cincinnati radio station, Boehner threw House Speaker Dennis Hastert under the bus. "I believe I talked to the speaker and he told me it had been taken care of," Boehner said. "And my position is it's in his corner, it's his responsibility. The Clerk of the House who runs the page program, the Page Board — all report to the Speaker. And I believed it had been dealt with." And so the Party of Personal Responsibility boldly stakes it claim to its last line of defense: "Not me!" -- Kevin Hoffman
