Competition for camera time

David Wesley: Is he about to steal D-Jones' title as the Cavs' greatest self-promoter?
It appears Damon Jones will face stiff competition in the battle to be the Cavs' resident jokester/sharpshooter. And it's another journeyman trying to wrestle the crown away from him. Though Jones has logged the most off-the-bench minutes so far this season, and still holds all team records for self-aggrandizement, newcomer David Wesley looks poised to swipe some of Jones' glory. It's Wesley who's been seen sneaking his mug on camera during pre-game warm ups, a move surely cribbed from the D-Jones Handbook on How to Get Face Time. And during a recent Mike Brown press conference, it was Wesley who saddled up next to the coach mid-interview. When Brown joked that the 16-year veteran should give the reporters' his home phone number for further discussion, Wesley didn't miss a beat: He started dishing out Brown's home number until the coach cut him off. Meanwhile, Jones was still in the gym, shooting jumpers after most of his teammates had left. With good reason. Just a few minutes before, Wesley — a career .369 three-point shooter — had topped D-Jones in an end-of-practice shooting contest. Jones (.386) watched stone-faced from mid-court as Wesley circled the perimeter, knocking down three after three, the remaining teammates rooting Wesley on. When it was all done, Wesley grinned across the court and broke into Jones' hip-hop theme song: "Go D.J./That's my D.J." Jones went back to shooting jumpers. --Joe P. Tone
