Another Anne E. DeChant Fan

Posted By on Wed, Jan 17, 2007 at 2:52 PM

Damn, she really is good.
After seeing Anne E. DeChant at the the Winchester last weekend, I became the 5,786th person to deem her a goddess of local folk rock. Performing with her full band (which -- news flash -- actually includes dudes!), she ripped out delectable cuts from her 2004 album Pop the Star as well as goosebump-inducing covers of folk faves such as "Leaving on a Jet Plane." Her tight harmonies and alternately sultry, anguished, and comic delivery kept most of the audience (besides a few drunk, middle-aged duds) mesmerized for more than two hours. Sure, DeChant has won tons of singer-songwriter awards and doesn't really need our publicity. But if you haven't checked her out lately, you should, if for no other reason than most of her shows are free. She's playing a solo acoustic show at noon Thursday at the Colonial Arcade (530 Euclid Ave.) and again Friday night at Jimmy's Cafe in Cuyahoga Falls. -- Lisa Rab
