Downloads: Mick Boogie's Valentine's Gift

Posted By on Wed, Feb 14, 2007 at 4:50 PM

Little Brother
Free Dope Rap Mixtapes from Mick Boogie, Little Brother, Junkie XL. Last week's Scene cover story, "The Commissioner," was an in-depth look at mixtape phenom Mick Boogie. He's a DJ with an MBA who MTV and Rolling Stone rank as one of the country's top-five makers of mixtapes -- the controversial hip-hop marketing tool-turned-market that recently came under fire from the Recording Industry Association of America. Click here to download Boogie's latest mix, the Little Brother street album And Justus For All. (It will download as a 100-MB ZIP file that unfolds into 30 mp3 tracks.) Available as a free download and comprising, in the words of its makers, "99.9% original music," the mix might be a model for future of mixtapes. And Little Brother — a North Carolina hip-hop group whose positivity and jazzy beats have made them a favorite with internet heads — are really good. As long as you're in download mode, click here to download an mp3 of LB's Phonte covering Toto's "Africa" with Zo. Or if face-stomping hardcore rap is your thing, click to download Provok's V-Day Massacre mixtape. Provok is the DJ of Cleveland group Injektion XL, and it contains 12 new tracks from Tkilla, 88 Nova, Don Shanks, Wyle E and K2. Make the most of your snow day. As John Belushi once said, "It don't cost nothin'." -- D.X. Ferris
