Professional Guinea Pigs

Posted By on Thu, Mar 8, 2007 at 2:25 PM

Last year, Scene reported the story of three Cleveland med students who took part in painful, potentially harmful medical experiments to help pay the bills ["Guinea Pig Gang," March 22, 2006]. NBC affiliates recently picked up on the story. A deal is now in the works for the students to host a show on the Discovery Channel, where they'll go to hospitals around the country, performing different experiments on camera. The students are ecstatic, their parents less so. "My mom says, 'you're an idiot. You're going to ruin your career. You'd make more money in half a year doing medicine than you would doing this show,'" says Nick Pesa, who's decided not to listen to mom. "The real question is 'how can I not do it?'" -- Rebecca Meiser
