Can We Have More Mentally Unstable B-Listers, Please?

Did you know Amanda Peet's muscles "solidify quickly"? Way fascinating.
Because there are never enough reality television shows to go around, Bravo decided last year to launch a show called Work Out, starring Jackie Warner, owner of a popular LA gym. But since watching people exercise isn't nearly as interesting as, say, watching washed up B-listers with mental problems — see The Surreal Life -- Bravo decided that Warner wasn't cutting it on her own, so it decided to following other gym employees around. Enter Gregg Butler, a jazz pianist from Solon turned part-time personal trainer to the stars. On the show, which premieres March 20, Butler is the gym's "young hip trainer" with an "unorthodox training" style, according to the script. "Unorthodox," in this context, is sort of a loose term. While the other trainers use yoga resistance bands, Butler prefers that his clients just, um, lift weights. "You'll never see me in any downward dog poses," t he true Ohio native says. In California, this is viewed as "odd." Though Butler hadn't intended to become a trainer, he quickly picked up some celebrity clientele, including Amanda Peet and Sarah Paulson of Studio 60 fame and ... "well, I guess that's pretty much it," he admits. Butler reveals that Amanda Peet's muscles tend to "solidify quickly" and she doesn't like to "look bulky." Also, despite reports to the contrary, Studio 60 started shooting again last week. It appears the show has not been cancelled, after all. Any other insights into California culture? "Well, I don't know if you know this or not," the former track star tells us. "But LA is very, very vain." You don't say ... -- Rebecca Meiser
