Maybe Eugene Sanders believes in openness after all?

There's a new PR chief for Cleveland schools, and it appears he actually believes in public relations. For years the office operated on the principle of siege warfare: No public records could be released, no questions answered, until months after you asked — and only after you bombarded former PR chief Alan Seifullah into submission. But Seifullah didn't last long under the watchful eye of new schools CEO Eugene Sanders. And since he departed last month, a tiny crack has appeared in the Kremlin. Earlier this week, Scene submitted a routine records request that, under Seifullah, would take weeks or months to fill. But the new chief, Ronald Kisner, nearly made us spill our margarita when he responded the next day, faster than most city bureaucrats finish their morning paper shredding. Does this mean school officials are actually going to be working from now on? — Lisa Rab
