An intimate $1,000 dinner with Barack Obama

Posted By on Thu, Jun 21, 2007 at 1:33 PM

In case you missed it, Barack Obama was in town Tuesday night for a $1,000-a-head fundraiser at Crowne Plaza. I was all set to write about what a rip-off this was for a presidential candidate trying to sell himself as a man of the people. But it seems to the good Senator isn’t as money-grubbing as I thought. Up until June 13, his campaign was offering a chance for four lucky supporters to win dinner with the man himself. All it took was a donation of ten bucks. Then you too could receive an “intimate dinner for five” and “get the kind of treatment other politicians reserve for special interests,” which is what Obama does when he’s not holding gimmick contests. Does that mean he would cut my steak for me? Sadly, the offer ended before I made it to the website. But fear not. The Daily Show, otherwise known as the Best TV News on Earth, has rounded up a collection of the weirdest gimmicks the presidential candidates are offering.
