Ratt Poison: Big Hair Rocks Blossom on Saturday

Hair-metal greats Poison and Ratt hit Blossom Saturday, June 23. Ratt has reunited with singer Stephen Pearcy, who fronted the band through every part of the band’s history that you want to know anything about. Scene correspondent Vince “Stigma” Bloom caught the tour in Pittsburgh Wednesday night. His report: “Opening act was Vains of Jenna, some Swedish hair-metal band that got big ‘cuz Bam Margera [of Jackass/Viva La Bam fame] signed them and used them in one of his MTV shows. Not terrible, but nothing noteworthy. “Ratt was really good. We weren’t expecting much. We were very pleased that they put on a really good show. They did a few songs off their new CD, but did all of the classics – “Lay It Down,” “You’re in Love,” “Way Cool Jr.,” etc. Closed with “Round and Round ‘N ‘Nat.” Big crowd pleaser. “Same with the Poison. Opened with “Look What the Cat Dragged in.” Also did “I Won’t Forget You,” “Something to Believe in,” “Talk Dirty to Me,” “Unskinny Bop.” Closed with “Nothing But a Good Time.” “Lots of pyro, flames, explosions. Nice visuals. They have a new CD coming out -- as they put it, “We’re going back to our roots, the songs we used to play in the bars.” In other words, mostly covers and shit that wasn’t good enough to get released back then. They covered Marshall Tucker’s “Can’t You See,” Romantics’ “What I like about Yinz,” and Tom Petty’s “I Need to Know”. The video they shot at this show will be on VH1 on July 15th. “Overall, a very fun show. After seeing so many club/bar shows where you’re no more than 20 feet from the band, I wasn’t real enthused about going to an arena-type show. Fortunately it was all good. “Majority of the crowd was 30-40-somethings. Lot of people brought their young kids. Between sets we’re getting some beer (at $7.50/large draft!). Talking to a guy who’s there with his 16 year-old son. Guy buys two beers, hands one to the kid. Vendor: “Dude, at least walk away from the booth before you do that!” -- Stig Poison, Ratt and Vains of Janna Saturday, June 23, 2007 Doors 5:30 PM, show 7:00 PM $21 - $65.5 (Ticketmaster)
