Money Where Your Mouth Is: Rick Stone and Fistula

Posted By on Wed, Aug 29, 2007 at 10:51 AM

Scene’s music editors close their collective yaps and lets jazz guitarist Rick Stone explain why his smooth tunes are exactly what you need to make it over the hump this week. Band: Rick Stone Trio, featuring Dave Morgan (bass) and Ron Godale (drums) Website/Myspace: Hometown: “Raised in Parma, OH, but living in New York City for last 25 years.” Sounds like: “Hopefully, like ourselves, but influenced by many greats of jazz guitar: Pat Martino, Wes Montgomery, Jim Hall and Pat Metheny, to name a few.” Fun fact: “Younger brother Bill Stone played with the Cleveland area alternative rock group Paranoid Lovesick.” Playing: Wednesday, August 29th at Nighttown (12387 Cedar Rd., 216-795-0550) . Two shows: 7:00 and 8:30 p.m. Why They Should Come See You: “Rare Northeastern Ohio performance with some old friends. Come hang out with us and enjoy great jazz music and great food at Nighttown. Yeah, we know, it's a weeknight, but it's an early gig. You'll be glad you did, and you won't hate yourself in the morning.” -- Rick Stone, guitar Fistula are the warped minds behind non-hits like “A Better Tomorrow” and the upcoming “Cat Skulls Are Thick.” We’d call them metal or hardcore, but neither term quite describes the band’s scuzzy, disenfranchised aggression. Formerly a trio, the group has recently expanded to a quintet, which makes them at least 66.6% more dangerous. Band: Fistula Website/Myspace: Hometown: Litchfield/Medina Sounds like: “Shit.” Fun fact: “If you shave off all the hair and wear shampoo for two weeks, we might go away.” Playing Where/When: Wednesday, August 29 at Fat Jimmy’s (Fat Jimmy's, 244 N. Water St., 330-678-2774), Kent. With Nooseebomb (ex-Grief, Disrupt) and Rue. Why You Need to See Them: “It may be the last time we play live, who knows? Plus, we are pretty good-looking fellows.” - Corey Bing, guitar
