Gay Episcopal Church leader nominated for Bishop; old straight dudes fume

Trinity Cathedral Dean Tracy Lind has conservative Episcopalians sweating.
Congress isn’t the only place where wars over gay rights are being waged. Heated arguments are also taking place in church ministries. Last year, the Episcopal Church passed a resolution encouraging ministries not to consecrate any openly gay bishops. Girl-on-girl action makes great porn, but it's simply not the Christian way. Then, last week, Tracy Lind, the openly gay dean of Cleveland’s Trinity Cathedral, was one of five priests nominated for the position of Chicago’s next Episcopalian bishop. Conservatives, upset about Lind's nomination, are considering protesting the move. Lind, though, is pleased as punch. Or at least we think she is. God doesn’t want her to talk to the press, we were told. Instead, she issued this pronouncement:
“I am honored and humbled to be named a nominee for Bishop of Chicago and to be included in the company of my fellow nominees, all of whom are faithful, accomplished leaders in God's church. Since the day last winter when I was asked to make myself available to this nominating process, my discernment prayer has been that God would continue to lead me to serve God's new creation in the church. I believe that accepting this nomination is what God is asking of me, and I will strive to respond to that call faithfully and with grace.”
