Before LeBron Gets Live From New York, His Bodyguards Get Chippy in Akron

Posted By on Mon, Sep 24, 2007 at 2:20 PM

Surely, the writers of Saturday Night Live are having little trouble finding material for LeBron James, who’ll be hosting the show’s 33rd season premiere this Saturday. Andy Samberg probably already has a song, Amy Poehler, a Cleveland joke, and Kennan Thompson, a decent impression. King James in drag? A given. Still, C-Notes would like to point the SNL crew to last week’s local headlines for easy inspiration: On Friday, the Beacon reported that an Akron resident was punked by one of James’ bodyguards, while the Cavalier was on the set of an upcoming documentary. Supposedly, James was being filmed at Akron's Perkins Park -- the site of his famously refurbished b-ball courts and where he used to shoot hoops as a kid -- when 46-year-old Duane Johnson decided to make a little movie of his own. Johnson, who lives across from Perkins, pulled out his camcorder and started shooting the action, when a bodyguard approached him and asked him to stop filming. The guard then threatened to take Johnson's camera away and remove him from the park. Johnson responded by filing a police report against James’ guard, then talking smack about the NBA star to the all the local news outlets. You can view his amusing tirade here. We think Fred Armisen would do a wonderful rendition. -- Denise Grollmus
