Lady Cahtterly plays at the Cinematheque Friday.
This week’s top arts and entertainment picks around town, from the guy who’s paid to pick them: Monday: Sure, the Indians’ loss last night was crushing. But they have another chance to stomp the Yankees on their own turf at 7:30 tonight. The game will beam on a big-ass screen at the Jake, and you can check it out for free. Go Tribe! Tuesday: Old Time Relijun’s new CD wraps up a trilogy about “transcendent experiences, with science-fiction elements.” But they’re not Uranus-obsessed prog-rockers; they’re post-rock noise merchants who owe quite a debt to avant-garde experimentalists like Captain Beefheart. They play Oberlin College’s Dionysus Club Wednesday: We’re as surprised as anyone that the Van Halen tour hasn’t broke down after backstage fisticuffs between the embittered singer and guitarist. After all, these guys have been trying to get a reunion show on the road for more than a half-decade now. We’re pretty sure they’ll be at the Q tonight. Thursday: Singer-songwriter Josh Ritter doesn’t even bother to conceal his adulation of freak-period Beatles. On his new album, The Historical Conquests of Josh Ritter, the Idaho-based troubadour piles on a carnival of sounds that employ multitracking, various tape tricks, and lots of exotic instruments. He’s at the Beachland Ballroom. Friday: The new version of Lady Chatterley is unlike any you’ve ever seen. D.H. Lawrence’s celebrated story -- about a repressed World War I-era wife, whose sexual awakening comes courtesy of her invalid husband’s gamekeeper -- leisurely unspools at more than two and a half hours. Best of all, director Pascale Ferran doesn’t turn away from the naughty bits: When the couple famously weaves flowers in each other’s pubic hair, audiences are treated to a close-up view of the action. It screens at the Cinematheque -- Michael Gallucci
