Commune with the Spirits at Momocho

Posted By on Fri, Nov 2, 2007 at 4:26 PM

Don’t hang up the Halloween costumes quite yet; you and the wee ones have one more chance to wear them this Saturday Nov. 3, as chef Eric Williams and his Momocho crew host a Dia de Los Muertos celebration at the “modern Mexican” restaurant in Ohio City. The traditional Day of the Dead activities – heavy on the marigolds, “bread of the dead,” and sugar skulls – are meant to honor ancestoral spirits. Here, though, the notion is just to have a little late-autumn fun, with family-oriented activities that include a costume contest, face painting, pinatas, and hay piled high on the handsome patio. The festival runs from 2 to 5 p.m. As for the grownups, they can honor some spirits of their own by making reservations for Momocho’s popular five-course tequila dinners, slated for Nov. 7, Dec. 5, Jan. 23, Feb. 27, and March 26. Cost of the Wednesday-night romp is $40 per person, and reservations are essential. Click here to see a sample menu. – Elaine T. Cicora
