Where's the Investigation of the Lakewood Library?

Posted By on Tue, Nov 20, 2007 at 1:43 PM

Would you please investigate yet another major delay in the re-opening of the computer center at the Detroit Avenue Lakewood Public Library? It was closed in June, and at that time library management posted a sign stating the computer center will re-open by November. Now the library staff says no sooner than March, and maybe not until later. Poor planning and mismanagement. But why? Although the big new Detroit Avenue main library building there opened in July, the computer center for adults and teens outrageously was NO LONGER THERE. (It is a long, inconvenient walk, especially in bad weather, to the next nearest library computer center.) The new library has a computer room for children on the first floor for children to play computer games. How is that more important than computers for teens and adults? And teens and adults are not allowed to play any computer games on the computers at the Madison Avenue branch. That is ridiculous and is age discrimination. Why are kids getting this preferential treatment? Irresponsible management at the library is why. The library director and board of trustees are not held accountable on this (or anything). Also, please find out whether or not it will be POSSIBLE for the library staff to monitor or retrieve information about what any individual did on the computers at the Madsion Avenue branch when it changes in December to a new system that will require computer users to enter their library card number. Perhaps it will create such a traceable, retrievable record that library staff could later spy. You should ask some very expert computer experts this question to get a more objective trustworthy answer than the library staff would give you about this. The library staff, managers, director might lie to cover-up. It is a system that should not be implemented. It is an invasion of privacy. And has the library or its director received any requests from the federal government for any kind of computer records? Will you look into these and publish a news story? If so, when?
