Zack Reed Finally Recognizes His Drinking Problem

Posted By on Fri, Jan 4, 2008 at 12:47 PM

Today’s Plain Dealer features an exclusive interview with party boy turned repentant sober councilman Zack Reed, after his completion of a 28 treatment program at the Cleveland Clinic. Among other things, he talks about the support he received in his ward, his plans to hang out at some new places with some new people (good idea there, Sparky), and his lively evening of Law & Order on New Year’s Eve. (Five bucks says Reed wondered aloud who would play him if Law & Order ever did the "Hammered Councilman" episode ... and settled on Samuel L.) ... It's a fairly predictable interview, but one response got C-Notes attention: PD: “Did you recognize before you went into the program that you had a problem?” Reed: “I didn’t recognize it. No one recognized it.” If by "no one," Reed meant "more or less everyone who's ever been on West Sixth or watched the evening news," he's probably spot on. He kept going, too. Check out these questions and answers that did not make the final cut in the PD piece: Did you think LeBron would have this good a season? I really didn't. I really thought last season, and previous year for that matter, were a fluke, and that he would eventually lose his starting role to Ira or Sasha. I don't think anyone knew he would turn out to be this serviceable. Did you think that sometime during the months of December and January that there would be some snow in Cleveland? No, I didn’t see that coming. I don’t think anyone who’s been around this town could have guessed that we would have anything but sun and 80-degree weather during these months. When you woke up this morning, did you think for a second that you couldn’t flap your wings and fly? No, I didn’t recognize that at all. Looking at my arms, looking at my physique, I think anyone would have expected to see me soaring above their houses on my way to West 6th. Um, I mean home … to watch Law & Order. -- Vince Grzegorek
