Concert Cheat Sheet: White Williams

Posted By on Thu, Jan 17, 2008 at 2:33 PM

Who: White Williams When: Friday, January 18 Where: The Grog Shop Why: Williams, who was born Joe Williams in Rocky River 24 years ago, has been embraced by indie-rock hispters for his electro-pop debut, Smoke – which cribs a little bit of glam from T. Rex, art-rock from Brian Eno, and new-wave shuffle from just about everybody. Latest Album: Smoke Best Album: Smoke Didja Know? Williams is really good pals with Gregg Gillis, better known as mash-up artist Girl Talk. Their past couple tours together have become legendary for their audience-embracing vibe. Listen Now: “New Violence,” a robotic slice of Bowie-like white-funk that pretty much sums up Williams’ aesthetic.
