Mic Check: Angels & Airwaves at House of Blues on Tuesday

Posted By on Mon, Feb 25, 2008 at 10:43 AM

Back in the day, Tom DeLonge used to make videos with his dick hanging out, titled albums Enema of the State and Take Off Your Pants and Jacket, and wrote songs dedicated entirely blow jobs. That’s when he was a member of Blink-182. His new band, Angels & Airwaves, takes things a lot more seriously. Combining U2-sized riffs and lyrics about cosmic epiphanies, DeLonge sounds pretty much like a modern-day prog-rocker with his head in the clouds. Angels & Airwaves’ two albums – We Don’t Need to Whisper and I-Empire – are pretentious as hell. But we really like them. It’s not that we buy into his whole spiritual/space concept, but the monster riffs push it all over. Plus, they sure do beat those Blink throwaways about Grandpa pooping himself. -- Michael Gallucci Angels & Airwaves perform at 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 26, at House of Blues, 308 Euclid Avenue. The show is sold out, but you might be able to find some tickets on craigslist.
