Alex Arshinkoff and George W. Bush: A winning combination!

Expect to see a mailer featuring Pol Pot promoting Summit County Republicans
With the presidential primary just days away, Ohio mailboxes are for once stuffed with more campaign literature than credit card applications. Still, one flyer sticks out – the one from the Summit County Republican Party. You’d think that after years of war, skyrocketing foreclosure rates, an unpopular president, and a battle being waged against homos by a closeted party chairman, the local GOP might want to distance itself from such unsavory issues. Not so… If a picture’s worth 1,000 words, then the photo featured on the flyer says it all. Pictured on the front are none other than President George W. Bush, the First Lady, Summit County Republican Party Chairman Alex Arshinkoff and his beard – err, wife – of 25 years, Karen, rendezvousing for a couples weekend at Bush’s Crawford, Texas ranch. The back lists 35 candidates endorsed by the Summit County GOP. While some of the listed candidates might actually be worth a vote or two, their potential is sorely overshadowed by the storied mugs on the front of the flyer. Aside from Arshinkoff’s sketchy pastimes, the party chair was recently kicked off the Board of Elections for bad behavior. And do we really need to get into Bush’s sins against Ohio? For the general election, the party is planning to mail a flyer featuring a picture of Pol Pot beheading a nun. – Denise Grollmus
