WMMS plays more music. Unfortunately, it's the same crap you've heard a million times

WMMS celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. And it’s commemorating the event by adding more old music to its playlist! With the recent addition of Rover’s Morning Glory to the schedule, the onetime rock behemoth was in danger of becoming an all-talk station. Between Rover’s five-hour marathon blabfest every morning and Maxwell’s similar chat-athon sucking up four hours every afternoon, there was hardly room for any music ... So station programmers have designated huge chunks of their weekday schedule to music. Maria spins from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the Big Rig and Seth keep the tunes rolling from 7 p.m. till 6 in the morning, when Rover and his crew take over. As program director Bo Matthews says, “WMMS was meant to rock in the midday.” Of course, “rocking” means rocking 1980s-style, with old-school geezers like Guns N’ Roses and Ozzy Osbourne dominating the playlist, which occasionally makes room for more recent snoozers like Nickelback, Puddle of Mudd, and Seether – all of whom wish it was the 1980s. --Michael Gallucci
