Zachary Coleman shows his support for Obama — with a bounced check

Zachary Coleman discovers the difficulty of playing the rich man when you have to steal your money from one unsuspecting woman at a time.
Last week, we introduced you to Zachary Coleman, an accomplished con man who hobnobbed his way into the good graces of Cleveland’s arts world. In his role as arts patron and supporter of Democratic causes, he played his cards well. Sure, he was a convicted felon with a lengthy rap sheet for financial fraud, but that didn’t stop him from attending political fundraisers and rubbing shoulders with Cleveland’s elite. He was a particularly ardent supporter of Barack Obama, a man whose humble beginnings and subsequent rise to the upper echelons mirrored the story Coleman liked to tell about himself. But it wasn’t exactly true… Obama went to Harvard Law School and serves in the U.S. Senate. Coleman lived off other people’s credit cards, and spent much of his prime years in prison. But that doesn’t sound as good over cocktails at Pickwick & Frolic. So Coleman, ever-generous with his fake riches, donated $500 to Obama’s campaign last year. Sadly, the check bounced a month later. Apparently, the bank wasn’t willing to play along with Coleman’s high-roller act. —Lisa Rab
