Mic Check: The Nylon Summer Music Tour at House of Blues on Friday

Woof! Be Your Own Pet.
You’ll want to get to the Nylon Summer Music Tour early and stay late. It’s a pretty solid bill, starting with post-punk revivalists the Virgins and She Wants Revenge. But the real fun begins once Be Your Own Pet takes the stage. The Nashville punks sing about food fights and other things they recently left behind in high-school on their great new album, Get Awkward. Best of all, these kids don’t fuck around. Get Awkward doesn’t even clock in at 30 minutes. They get in and do their job with no filler (somebody should show this CD to hip-hop artists, who apparently believe that every single second of a disc should be filled, regardless of quality) ... And be sure to check out Britpoppers Switches, who steal a whole lotta riffs and attitude from ’70s rockers on their debut, Lay Down the Law. These guys love ELO and aren’t ashamed to admit it. That’s our kinda band. --Michael Gallucci The Nylon Summer Music Tour featuring Switches, Be Your Own Pet, the Virgins, and She Wants Revenge comes to House of Blues (308 Euclid Avenue) at 8 p.m. Friday, June 6. Tickets are $16 and $18, available by calling 216-523-2583. For a preview, listen to Switches’ “Drama Queen” below.
