Scene's Tasteful Affair: As tasteful as we can make it, considering all the booze

Posted By on Fri, Jun 13, 2008 at 9:22 AM

Light chef Matt Mathlage will judge this year's cooking competition.
Booze, food, and a chance to watch four local chefs make like Food Network stars are among the highlights of Scene’s 2008 Tasteful Affair, a June 26 fundraiser for the Diabetes Association of Greater Cleveland. More than 25 restaurants and markets will be taking part this year, including Chef’s Choice Meats, The Saffron Patch, Hard Rock Café, Marsha’s Carryout and Catering, and Fireside Lobster & Chop House, as well as the crew of chefs-in-training from Chesterland’s ICASI. ... The highpoint, though, may well be the annual Iron Fork competition. This year’s contest pits chefs Brian Doyle (Good Taste, in Medina), Jeff Fisher (Touch Supper Club, in Ohio City), Adam Schmith (Melange, in Beachwood), and Josh Kabatt (Reddstone, in Gordon Square) against a clock, a basket of secret ingredients, and each other, to see who can create the most memorable dishes. Judging the competition will be last year’s winner, Matt Mathlage of Light Bistro, along with Marianne Frantz of the Cleveland Wine School, and Loretta Paganini of ICASI. Meantime, samples of beer, wine, and spirits, along with music from local soul-rock band Winslow, will keep everything groovy and bright. All of the above will take place beginning at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 26, at Windows on the River (2000 Sycamore St.), on the West Bank of the Flats. Presale tix are $30 each, or four for $100. Tix at the door will set you back $40. To order, visit clevescene.com. See you there. --- Elaine T.
