Best Picks of the Week Ever!

Posted By on Mon, Jun 16, 2008 at 12:26 PM

DJ Tiesto, Tuesday at Metropolis.
Every Monday, Scene calendar editor Cris Glaser provides a random but reliable sampling of things to do in the week ahead. For more options, log onto And check back Friday for C-Notes' Picks of the Week. Monday: The last time Detroit’s High Strung rock trio tooled into Northeast Ohio, it dropped off a 1988 Chevy at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the keys in the ignition and a note that essentially read, “It’s taken us to 500 shows across America. Now it’s yours.” The threesome is now back on its third annual National Rock & Roll Library Tour with two 7 p.m. concerts at the Rocky River Public Library, 1600 Hampton Road in Rocky River and the Avon Lake Public Library, 32649 Electrric Boulevard in Avon Lake. Admission is free. Call 440-333-7610 or 440-933-8128 for details. Tuesday: As he prepares to launch his Coca-Cola-sponsored theme song, “Global Harmony,” at the Beijing Olympics in August, Dutch DJ Tiësto makes a pit stop in the Flats tonight to promote his latest CD, In Search of Sunrise 7-Asia. The disc is a follow-up to his Grammy-nominated album, Elements of Llife, for the best electronic music of 2007. Tiësto spins at 10 tonight at Metropolis, 2325 Elm Street on the West Bank of the Flats. A $15 ticket gets you in the door by calling 216-241-1444. Wednesday: In a rare Cleveland appearance, best-selling author Jackie Collins autographs copies of her latest novel, Married Lovers, for fans at 7 tonight at the Cleveland Play House. The sizzler tells the story of an Australia fitness trainer, who moves to L.A. and carries on a torrid affair with one of Hollywood’s major power players in the entertainment business. The Play House is located at 8500 Euclid Avenue. For more information, call 216-795-7000. Thursday: Cain Park puts an urban spin on L. Frank Baum’s classic, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, with tonight’s opening of a three-week run of The Wiz. Tag along with Dorothy, Toto, and the gang as they ease on down the road to a score of rock, R&B, and gospel tunes. Showtime is at 8 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays through Sunday, July 6, at Cain Park, 14591 Superior Road in Cleveland Heights. Tickets are $10 by calling 216-371-3000.
