Former Parma Heights Mayor Marty Zanotti this week's cover story and current Lakewood Mayor Ed FitzGerald have been sniping at each other over the latter's candidacy for the new county executive position. Zanotti says FitzGerald's a hypocrite, because he opposed Issue 6, which created the new office (and scraps the three-commission system). FitzGerald says Zanotti, who's involved in the transition process, can go screw (we're paraphrasing). Read more about it in this week's cover story, "The Zanotti Way."

FitzGerald has mustered some early support — including that of Mike Byrne, who just succeeded Zanotti as mayor of Parma Heights. Byrne — whose city faces huge financial problems in the wake of Zanotti's departure — apparently thinks FitzGerald has some good ideas, hometown ties be damned.

Other supporters include Fairview Park Mayor Eileen Patton and North Olmsted Mayor Kevin Kennedy. Laborers Local 310 has also lined up behind FitzGerald. — Damian Guevara
