About Those Ominous Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Billboards Around Town...

The face you want to see on your morning commute.
  • The face you want to see on your morning commute.

If you commute over the Inner Belt bridge or down I-71, you've undoubtedly noticed the smiling visage of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad greeting your rush-hour travels on two billboards. Just the way to start your morning, right?

The billboards feature the Iranian president with some lines about how Iran is getting fat off our oil-dependent gluttony and the website: PassTheAmericanPowerActNow.Org.

What gives? Haven't we had enough controversial billboards in this town with the "Breast Milk Satisfies" campaigns?

While not identical, the billboards are similar to the poster pictured with John Kerry. PassTheAmericanPowerActNow.org takes you to a petition for the aforementioned bill, a John Kerry project with Joe Lieberman and Lindsey Graham. It reads:

The American Power Act could cut Iran's oil profits by up to $100 million every day. We need to stand strong for the American Power Act because the cost of delaying climate change legislation is more than we can afford. The time for action is now. Will you sign your name next to the men and women who have put their lives on the line for our security?

Kerry's website describes the bill thusly:

The Clean Energy Jobs and American Power Act (S.1733) will get tough on corporate pollution and put American ingenuity to work to dramatically improve every facet of the way America generates and uses energy. It will create millions of new, good-paying jobs, protect our air and water from dangerous pollution, and secure our children's future by making America more energy independent. And it does not raise the federal deficit by one single dime.

So, let me summarize for you: Even if you don't give a hoot about polluting or the environment, make sure you support this bill out of fear of Iran.
