Morning Brew: Smoking Ban, Botanical Gardens, Hidden Treasure, and the Voice of a Generation

The good old days.
  • The good old days.

Good morning, Cleveland. Here's some stuff to read while you dream up the next great Cavs rumor.

— It's been three years since Ohio instituted the smoking ban. It's also been three years since Scene began it's unofficial search for bars that still covertly allow smoking. With just a few exceptions, we've gotta say Ohio's winning this one so far. (News Herald)

— Tom Brokaw delivered the commencement speech at John Carroll, dropping pearls of wisdom like: "You will not get a Google alert when you fall in love." In other news, Tom Brokaw thinks it appropriate to wear a baseball cap while delivering a commencement speech. That didn't come up in our Google reader either. (Cleveland.com)

— The Cleveland Botanical Gardens are facing some financial hardships as attendance continues to fall. We used to go there all the time during college, but that was at 2 a.m. and we used the secret "climb over the fence and sneak in" entrance. That probably didn't count towards official attendance though. (Cleveland.com)

— A story of hidden treasure from the Akron Beacon Journal. Kind of like finding that extra beer hiding in the back of the fridge, but with money instead. (ABJ)

— Wrong child's body cremated. Hilarity does not ensue. (10TV)

— Headline of the morning: Kids Caught in Gay Splits. (Columbus Dispatch)
