Geauga Lake — Cedar Point's little, very little, brother to the east — shuttered its doors in 2007.

Relatively more accessible than Sandusky, cheaper, and with fewer crowds, the amusement park did decent business back in the day before facing mounting money troubles.

Many a kid spent time there though, and the Big Dipper was a big draw. An old wooden coaster built in 1925, the Dipper was the first "big" coaster for many a youngster and a nostalgic monument in Northeast Ohio.

So how did it end up for sale on eBay?

The Aurora Advocate reports that loads of Geauga Lake's rides and property were put up for auction in 2008.

Tom Woosnam bought it on behalf of someone else for $5000 at the time. Two years later, the Big Dipper, which still sits on its original site at Geauga Lake, appeared in an eBay auction which just ended on September 6.

Apparently no one had enough cash, or space, to purchase the coaster. The starting bid was $9500 and the Buy It Now price was $65,000.

The sixth-oldest coaster in the world could not draw a bidder.

Here's the eBay description:

The World Famous, Big Dipper roller coaster at Geauga Lake Park in Aurora Ohio. Complete. Built in 1925, now 6 Th oldest in the world. Own history. 2800 ft long, has thrilled hundreds of thousands. In tact, ready to thrill again. Designed and built by John Miller, the premier builder of coasters.

Unless it appears on eBay again and you have spare change and spare land, chances are you won't be experiencing the thrill of the Big Dipper anytime soon, but here's a first-person POV video taken on the ride, which is the next best thing.
